In professional settings, experience shows that cut-resistant trousers last for around 1 to 1.5 years. With occasional use, they can be worn for up to around 5 years. Both scenarios correspond to approximately 25 washes. There is no set number of washes. Resin, oil and fuel residues can have a detrimental effect on the performance of safety clothing – therefore, regular care is important to maintain its protective function.
Our tips for gentle care:
- Reduce the number of washes
- Use a low washing temperature
- Avoid fabric softener or bleach
- If heavily soiled, add a tablespoon of grease remover or soap to the detergent
- Do not spin-dry, tumble dry or iron – pull into shape whilst still wet after washing
- Similar to clothing with quilted lining, smooth out and tap lightly after washing
In addition to the washing cycles, many external factors influence the ageing of cut-resistant trousers. The level of protection depends crucially on the condition of the cut-resistant inserts. Carry out a visual and tactile inspection regularly:
- Feel the inserts: Do the cut-resistant inserts still feel smooth and firm?
- Check the shape: Have the inserts twisted or become misshapen?
- Check for damage: Are there any visible tears, cuts or other damage?
As soon as you see any damage or feel twisted/deformed inserts, you must replace the trousers for your own safety.
