High-visibility clothing is subject to detailed regulations. The regulations governing high-visibility clothing are clearly set out by the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV).
The EN 20471 standard applicable to high-visibility clothing sets out the requirements for protective clothing that visually signals the wearer’s presence. High-visibility classes 1, 2 and 3 indicate how visible the wearer is during the day and at night. Class 3 offers the highest visibility.
The use of high-visibility clothing follows a general risk assessment for passive road users (working in the vicinity of the carriageway). For road traffic, the following vehicle speeds serve as a guide:
- Class 1: up to 30 km/h
- Class 2: up to 60 km/h
- Class 3: over 60 km/h
The employer or the employers’ liability insurance association determines the risk level for the planned use.
Please refer to the sewn-in label for the high-visibility class of the personal protective equipment (PPE).
Our tip:
Some high-visibility items from STRAUSS can be combined to form a complete, certified high-visibility outfit with a higher overall high-visibility class.
Example:
High-visibility functional shorts e.s.ambition (Class 1) + High-visibility functional T-shirt e.s.ambition (Class 2) = Overall high-visibility class 3
Details on possible combinations can be found in the STRAUSS Online Shop and in the product information.
It is not possible to freely combine items to achieve a higher high-visibility class.
